Joe's update

The Collingwood Elvis Festival... even 'Platinum Elvis' was there !

July 2010

2010 started out busy, and hasn't let up yet!! Between the group activities, my book signings, and speaking engagements, my paintings...I've been running hard...too  hard sometime, but I love all that I do, and I love and appreciate all of you who support me, pray for me, and encourage me...Thank You ALL!

As you all know, Gus Gaches, our tenor singer for the past 5 years, left our group to join another group, full time, (we only do about 50 shows a year), Gus wanted to sing ALL the time...so there he goes...the very best to him, and Legacy Five, may God continue to Bless them!!

We took Aaron Odom with us on the ETC Tour thru the UK and Europe, in Feb. and March...after 3 weeks on the road he decided (really his wife and little 5 year old Boy decided) that he should find work closer to home...he now is Minister of Music at a big church in Florida... Since then Royce Taylor has been filling in that spot on some of our dates...what a nice guy he is, and all of our Elvis fans/friends remember when he sang with the Stamps Quartet.

In June we made a trip back to Germany to work with some old friends, and a new one...Jim Brown from Scotland...he was terrific, what a great voice, we enjoyed meeting him and his lovely wife...that concert was in Soest, promoted by the official Fan Club of Germany, EPG, and their new President, Mary Hesterberg!! We also did a Concert in Munich with our 'Big' Friend- Dr. Kingsize...It was really so good to be with him again, he always treats us as Family, and gives more than we ever expect...that concert was at the Circus-Krone...in the round, a very famous performance hall, many pop artists have played there before!  Then on to Duseldorf,

where we did a big show on Sunday afternoon, with our Friends,  Shaky Everett, and Oliver Steinhoff...it was so good to be with them again...We were worn out, but the fans and friends made it all woth while!!

The 'Heart of the King' Festival in Las Vegas was a 'blast from the past', the concert, featuring Shawn Klush, the Sweet Inspirations, Sammy Shore, and so many of the friends we've worked with over the years were there...plus many fans, and friends from all over the world...Elvis is still alive in the hearts and minds of so many...July!!

Our first time to be at the Collingwood Festival, outside of Toronto...WOW, now I know why everyone who has been there says this is the biggest and best! (I will report in more detail on this next month)

***FYI...For the first time in many years,  we will NOT be in Memphis this August for all the activity there around EP Week!!

Calgary, Alberta Canada at the Jubilee Auditorium, Sept 10th, with Bruce Sheasby, a.k.a, the Rev. Elvis!!...The Rev. recently came to Nashville, and we recorded with him! I'm sure we will do some of the songs we recorded at this concert...Hope to see you there!  (this will our first appearance in Calgary in many years)

October...we're staying close to home this month, to finish our new CD project, and to do several recording projects that have been booked for some time.

November is the 'Elvis Cruise', leaving Jacksonville, Fla. on Nov. 4th, returning on the 8th...we've done them all,...they say this one will out shine the rest?? Look forward to it...the shows on the Cruise are terrific...we can't wait!

We will be spending the Christmas Season in Vienna with our good Friend, and great Entertainer, Dennis Jale and his orchestra...WOW!, how bad can that be?  Christmas in Vienna!!!...They say it's spectacular!!

We've already started booking for next year (2011), it amazes me that there is such continued interest in us, our music, and our association with Elvis...thanx to all our friends and fans, around the world...we appreciate you for being so loyal and faithful to us, and what we do... You are our reward, may God richly Bless each of you!!

Our good friend David Wade from the UK, came up with the concept that we are calling ....'The Cathedral Tour', starting in March of next year... It should be a wonderful experience to be a part of this tour...stay tuned for more details...talk to you soon,

February - March, 2010    Elvis in Concert

Elvis-the Concert has been designated by the Guiness Book of Records, as the first live tour headlined by a performer who is no longer living...definitely a record!!

In his life time, Elvis' only concerts outside the United States, were a few shows he did in Canada in 1957. A world tour was a dream that Elvis had for his fans that never materialized.  Now back by popular demand, 'ETC' is returning to the UK/European markets in this astounding production that reunites former Elvis band mates, and B.G.voices live on stage, with a state of the art video-projected Elvis!

This is the same production (with several changes) that toured the world extensively in 1998... many American cities, that included 3 smash sold-out shows in NYC, at the famed Radio City Music Hall... several tours thru Europe, including sell-outs at the world famous Wembley Arena (back again Feb.27th, '10) and on to Australia and Japan.

The shows concept, for those of you who haven't seen it, is to present an authentic as possible Elvis Presley Concert...The Elvis footage is projected on a huge video screen... on stage, a 16 piece orchestra, conducted by Elvis long time Conductor and MD, Joe Guercio,  members of Elvis' original TCB Band, his back-up singers the Sweet Inspirations, and the Elvis' Imperials.  Elvis' recorded voice on the 'big Screen' is so powerful, the interaction with the live musicians and singers, the overall production is as if elvis is still up there!!

Long time Elvis fans around the world who have attended actual Elvis concerts, say they feel that same original excitement and electricity. "...It's so real and well done that there are moments when even I think Elvis is back in the Building!!"

This all started way back in Memphis, August of 1997, at the Mid-South Coliseum, marking the 20th Anniversary of his passing...it was like a homecoming... many of the outstanding musicians and vocalists who worked with Elvis over the years gathered... it was pure 'magic'!

The production became the prototype for what you will see in 2010... A Major Reunion Show on the scale of the 1997 show, the 25th Anniversary Concert at the Pyramid in Memphis, and the 30th Anniversary Concert at the Fed Ex Forum in Memphis...

'Elvis-the Concert' was designated a Guiness World Record as the first live tour headlined by a performer who is no longer living. The show's concept is to present an authentic as possible Elvis Presley Concert!! Who better to do that than the 'cast' who was there on stage with him in his 'Glory Days'?

Of course, Elvis' Imperials sang one of EP's favorite Gospel songs : 'Sweet, Sweet Spirit'! And then there was 'How Great Thou Art',... always a Fan Favorite... where ever we go !!! My personal favorite is 'If I Can Dream'... (man, this guy could sing!!!)

I love you all for giving me the opportunity to still be a part of this Phenomenon...thankyouverymuch !!!

January, 2010     Memphis, Tn

It was a winter blast...single digit temperatures, but that didn't seem to slow down the energy or enthusiasm for all that was going on at 'Graceland', during Elvis' 75th Birthday Week, Jan.7-10. Terry Blackwood and I, got in on Thursday, we were a part of the 'Official Elvis Insiders Reception'...it was a wonderful chance for us to meet and greet some old and new friends...Elvis Fans are the Best!! We were also part of the Friday morning 'Elvis Day Proclamation Ceremony'. Boy was it cold...I felt sorry for the fans who were outside, waiting in the cold for hours for a glimpse of the Presley Family...and there they were, smiling and waving at the crowd, Priscilla, Lisa Marie, Riley and Benjamin...what a beautiful Family!

On Saturday we rehearsed for our early Sunday Morning  'Sold Out'-'Southern Gospel Celebration', it was to be an exciting time for us, the first concert we'd do with our new Tenor singer, Aaron Odom, what a great job he did...the fans really loved him, and made him feel welcome! We featured him on a solo, and he received a standing ovation!! We also had a surprise for the audience, we brought a guest artist with us,... Mr. Andy Childs! We had such a great time with Andy on the Elvis Cruise, when we did a few Gospel songs together, that we thought these fans/friends would enjoy seeing/hearing us together again!  Andy is a great guy, and we enjoy working with him.

After the concert we hung around for a short while, then back to Nashville to re-pack, and catch a flight for our next engagement in Milwaukee w/Ryan Pelton. All in all, another terrific Elvis Celebration,  planned and staged by the wonderful Staff of professionals there at Graceland...now we look forward to August...see you then!?

November 30, 2009     The Elvis Cruise 2009

News about this year's Cruise is already Old News...but I wanted you to hear, 'My Side of the Story'!

We have been on all 3 EP Cruises,  but this one, by far, was the best!  Organized by Sixthman, out of Atlanta, Ga., these people know how to plan a Cruise!... they were Great! Produced and Hosted by our good friend Jerry Schilling, and the ever-hard working Staff from EPE, featuring Members of the TCB Band, Joe Guercio, The Sweet Inspirations, DJ Fontana, Andy Childs, Terry Mike Jeffrey, and his band, Ronnie Mc Dowell and his band, The Dempseys, also some of the very best ETA's, and Elvis Movie Co-Stars... It was packed with Music, Entertainment, and surprises 24/7... Everyone I talked to, said it was definitely 'the best Elvis Cruise, so far'... However... in all the reports and updates about the Cruise, I feel one particular show stood out from the rest!!... The Sunday Morning Gospel Show!!  Of course, to me... it was the best one on the entire Cruise!!

On Friday night, I started to announce from the main stage that we wanted to organize a choir, made up of the fans and friends on the ship... we needed at least 75 good voices... "if you sing in your church choir back home... we need YOU!" Well, were we surprised, we had to stop it at 75, because there could have been 150, and no place to put them on Sunday Morning for the Gospel Service!  We told everyone who attended, that it was Sunday morning, and we're going to have Church at sea!!  So we started the program with the Gospel favorite... 'the Ol' Gospel Ship', and declared the Ship that morning,... the 'Gospel Ship'!!  Included in that Service were The Sweets, and Andy Childs... they were so good, and the Fans loved them... but the 'Choir' stole the show... it was amazing... we really had Church!!  The people in the choir, filled the first two rows of the Main Stage Auditorium, when it came time for them to sing, they simply stood, and turned towards the audience, and there was Joe Guercio standing in the aisle, ready to conduct them... it was glorious!  We ended the Service with 'Oh Happy Day', and 'How Great Thou Art', these songs featured the whole Cast on Stage, accompanied by our '75 voice choir'... WOW, it was very moving, inspiring, and for the packed house who were present, they knew they had been to 'Church'!... I hope we can do it again?  Joe Guercio named the choir, 'The Graceland Tabernacle Choir'...

It was especially a great time for me, because my Son Joe,lll was my room-mate on board for the Cruise...Thanx for going Joe, I love you!

I'd like to thank EPE, Sixthman and Jerry Schilling for having us...we look forward to next year, but can't imagine that we can 'top' the 'Magic' of this years Cruise... Thanx to all who participated, but mostly to the Fans and Friends who were 'on Board'... Blessings to you all...

The cruise this year will leave Jacksonville, Fla. on November 4th... Hope to see you all on board !!!
